Countless lunches, celebrations and shared moments.
It all began with one kitchen, one family and a simple idea: that every guest should feel at home. The recipes have stayed the same, the house has grown, and the tables have filled with people who keep coming back.
- 1985The Sobočan family opens the doors of the restaurant in Bresternica.
- 1995A major renovation — the celebration hall and guest rooms are added.
- 1998The outdoor terrace is built, becoming a favourite spot for summer gatherings.
- 2017Construction of the outdoor bar and the opening of Piknik PLAC.

Set tables, warm light and mighty solid-wood beams create a space where time slows down a little and food tastes best in good company.
Over all these years we often considered renovating and modernising our rooms. But solid wood is timeless – with the years it does not lose its beauty, it gains character and tells the stories of many generations. That is exactly why we want to keep the space as it is: warm, genuine and homely.

Behind Gostišče Sobočan, on a green meadow along the Drava path, lies our Piknik PLAC – a place created for relaxed celebrations from early spring to late autumn.

Large lawn and covered terrace
The wooden bar offers pleasant shade on hot days and shelter in less sunny weather. In the afternoon you can also enjoy the natural shade under the trees.

What is Gostišče Sobočan?+
Gostišče Sobočan is a traditional Slovenian guesthouse with more than 41 years of family tradition, located in Bresternica near Maribor. Besides excellent homemade cooking, we offer accommodation for weary travellers, a picnic area – Piknik PLAC – as well as a hall and a covered terrace for celebrations, weddings, team-building events and other private parties. In short: a place where good food, homeliness and beautiful moments come together. Every weekend we host larger parties celebrating with us, and we spoil them with good food, a pleasant atmosphere, the chance to walk along the Drava River after a hearty lunch, and surroundings that invite you to visit us again and again.
Where is Gostišče Sobočan located and how do we get to you?+
Gostišče Sobočan is located at Celovška cesta 13 in Bresternica, just a few minutes' drive from Maribor. Free parking for all guests is available in front of and behind the guesthouse. When is Gostišče Sobočan open?+
We are open Tuesday to Sunday between 11:00 and 22:00. On Mondays we are closed for regular business, but you can contact us for private parties and events by prior arrangement.
Do I need to reserve a table?+
An advance reservation is always required – also for smaller groups, on weekends, holidays and for Sunday lunches. For larger celebrations, weddings and private parties, reserving the space is essential. Call us on 02 623 23 13 or 041 510 140.
What kind of food do you offer?+
We offer traditional Slovenian home cooking with a modern touch: warm soups, meat and traditional dishes, grilled specialities, fresh salads and homemade desserts. We prepare our menu seasonally and work with local suppliers.
Do you offer vegetarian, vegan or adapted dishes?+
Of course. We can prepare vegetarian, vegan and other adapted dishes. Please let us know about any allergies, intolerances or dietary preferences when you make your reservation.
Do you have parking?+
Yes, free parking is available in front of and behind the guesthouse for all guests, including for larger celebrations and events.
Do you organise weddings, birthdays and other celebrations?+
Yes. At Gostišče Sobočan we have been organising weddings, anniversaries, christenings, communions, confirmations, birthdays, business lunches, team-building events and other private parties for more than 41 years. We have a large hall that seats up to 100 people, two smaller rooms where up to 35 people can celebrate in private comfort, an intimate room for smaller family lunches, and a large covered terrace where up to 100 people can celebrate at the same time.
How many guests can the hall and terrace accommodate?+
The hall accommodates up to 100 people, though with a stage and dance floor it is best suited for around 70 guests. The covered terrace also accommodates up to 100 people and is excellent for summer celebrations.
Do you offer accommodation?+
Yes, in addition to the guesthouse we offer simple, clean and warm rooms for travellers, couples and families. Breakfast is included. You can find more information on the Accommodation page.
Can I bring my pet?+
We love animals, so pets are of course welcome in our rooms. Out of respect for other guests, they are only allowed in certain areas of the restaurant by prior arrangement – just let us know your wishes.
